At Island TEFL, we offer you the opportunity to be placed in a local Thai school on Koh Samui as a voluntary English Teacher for a 1-month period. This experience will not only be highly beneficial to your future job prospects, but it also enables you to immerse yourself in the local culture and give something back to the local community. Teaching hours are quite flexible, so your Volunteer Placement Coordinator, working with your host school, can customise your teaching timetable to suit your individual requests. Adult classes can also be organised - teaching small groups in local resorts, businesses and hotels.
Adding hours of practical EFL teaching experience to your CV/Resume will improve your employment opportunities, give you invaluable experience across different age and ability levels, and provide you with a unique cultural experience.
Our course is an intensive 4-week certificate tefl course which will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to take your first steps towards a new and exciting career in EFL teaching. Your new qualification and internationally recognised tefl certificate will enable you to travel, live and teach in exotic locations all around the globe.

Island TEFL trainees choosing this volunteer package option receive the same as Package A PLUS:
- 1-month EFL Volunteer Teaching placement in a local Thai primary school on one of our islands teaching young learners, in collaboration with the Thai Ministry of Education, Suratthani Province; or teaching adult staff at a local resort / business.
- Accommodation for 2 months (duration of the TEFL course plus the 1-month volunteer placement)
- Flexible teaching hours and days, up to 4 hours per day; 4 days per week – providing up to 60 hours of practical EFL teaching experience with the same groups of students
- Letter of Appreciation from your host school’s Director, or host resort GM, confirming teaching hours delivered and levels taught (excellent addendum to your CV!)
- Ongoing support and assistance from your Placement Coordinator for the duration of the EFL volunteer placement
- Mobile phone with international SIM card, allowing you to stay in touch with family and friends
Eligibility :
- MInimum 18 years of age
- A native or fluent English speaker, with excellent skills in both spoken and written English
- Able to produce a high standard of work
- Possess an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables the course to be undertaken successfully
- Committed, presentable and reliable
- No degree or previous teaching experience is required
- Volunteers must obtain a current Criminal Records Check from their home country before beginning their placement in schools
