Gaining your new internationally recognized TEFL qualification is the first step in the process of beginning your new career as a TEFL Teacher. To maximise your employment opportunities and put you in the top ranking for well paid positions, there is nothing better than being able to provide potential employers with evidence of real, practical teaching experience!

At Island TEFL, we offer you the opportunity to be placed in a local government school on Koh Samui as a voluntary EFL Teacher for a 2-month period. This experience will not only be highly beneficial to your future EFL job prospects, but it also enables you to immerse yourself in the local culture and give something back to the local community. It's also lots of fun! What better place to improve your resume than here on beautiful Koh Samui?

You will be supervised by experienced English teachers and may have other TEFL volunteers working alongside you or in other schools on the island. Your Placement Coordinator will be available to offer advice and support with resources and lesson planning.

Island TEFL trainees choosing this package option receive the same as Package A PLUS:

  • 2-month TEFL Volunteer Teaching placement in a local Thai primary or secondary school on Koh Samui teaching young learners, in collaboration with the Thai Ministry of Education, Suratthani Province; or teaching adult staff in a resort on Koh Samui
  • Up to 4 hours teaching per day;  up to 4 days per week – providing over 100 hours of practical teaching experience.  Schools/Resorts are quite flexible and accommodating regarding times and days of teaching, so your placement can be tailored to suit your needs.
  • 3 months private accommodation. This will cover the duration of the 4 week course and volunteer placement.
  • Mobile Phone with International SIM card.
  • Letter of Appreciation from your host school's Director, or GM of the host resort confirming teaching hours delivered and levels taught (excellent addendum to your CV!).
  • Ongoing support from your Placement Coordinator

Eligibility :

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A native or fluent English speaker
  • Able to produce a high standard of work
  • Possess an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables the course to be undertaken successfully
  • In excellent mental and physical health
  • Committed and reliable
  • No degree or previous teaching experience is required
  • Volunteers must obtain a current Criminal Records Check from their home country before beginning their placement in schools
